Medieval Sustainability

Medeltidsveckan contributes to a kinder world, one historical festival at a time.

Sustainability promise

We promise to contribute to a healthy, equal and inclusive future through promoting good health and wellbeing, public education, gender equality, and equity. Our operation will always safeguard social justice and the equal value of people.

Social, Environmental and Economic sustainability together create conditions for development of a future that is resource-efficient, safe and healthy, and economically and socially fair. Medeltidsveckan på Gotland works specifically towards the UN’s Global Goals that support our mission (goals 3 and 4) and security work (goals 5, 8, 10, 11, 16), as well as measures that are important for Gotland as a travel destination (goal 6). We work continuously to develop our operations and identify new goals to strive for and contribute to.

Our playground Riddargård is a portion of the festival where children can discover the UN Global Goals in a playful and educational way. Through educational activities and creative play they have the opportunity to understand and engage in sustainability and important future issues.

The security work of Medeltidsveckan permeates the festival. Specifically, we have utilised security guards for many years who staff the festival at night, pick up trash and ensure that everyone feels good and has water to drink. In the morning, the night’s work is reported to the festival management team. The security guards are financed by sponsors. In 2024; Strand Hotel, Hotell S:t Clemens, Hotell Breda Blick and ICA Torgkassen helped make this possible.

Below you can see a selection of what we do in our sustainability work connected to the UN’s Global Goals.
